It's been a while yeah? Hope the few of you here have enjoyed the album,
it took way too long and I'm glad it did. I won't talk about a lot of that
right now, that's in the past, but I want to start doing this thing: every
first Sunday of the month I'll post a little blog entry about all this stuff
I've got working on. First of all, immediately, new site! Woo! Not very new
but it counts damnit, I got tired of seeing his eyes on the main site so I
made this cute scuffed little logo to have as an origin pointer and a proper
logo. What else: oh yeah, finally uploaded the album on YouTube. It's been on
the other sites for a while but I never properly uploaded them, but now I have!
Woo! I've also been making some CD-Rs to sell/give out, I made 20 and have
already gotten rid of 4! Woo! Since I finally made the move, I have also been
spreading word about my stuff and so we have some fans, woo! What else, oh yeah
the new album is under way. I'm putting myself under a lot of pressure but it's
nothing impossible: two albums before the year's end. I want to record another
quick and cheap album sometime, like the first one, but rocking noise stuff.
Just me, the guitar, a drum machine, fuzzboxes, maybe a bass? Who knows, that
might happen. There's also the actual big album I've been working on, whole
lot of fun. I bought this cheap keyboard a while back and have been learning
piano with it, gotten me thinking about music and what to make, with all the
sounds I can get out of it. And then the pressures of being a new person in
a new city, being a human person looking for things, stuff like that, all
made with the new technology made available to me, going to be mostly digital.
Also a lot of vocal harmonies hopefully, I want to get good at that, it seems fun.
I want to do live stuff soon, sharing the great name of Rocket & the Tarachine
to all available listeners, but it's hard being just a guy, you know?
Thankfully, I was gifted a small tape player by a friend for a birthday gift
and I've been messing with it, so the plan is to get backing tracks on a
tape and then attach the player with electrical tape to my acoustic guitar
as I perform. Not ingenious but it sounds fun, call me a low budget techno
Mk.gee. All of this stuff is more in-person than internet advertising,
but I'm fine with that, I've realised I much prefer the local scenes and
their people to online, although I've found more people like me online.
Of course I'm going to do advertising online too, but I think this is
where I want to focus right now. The flesh and blood around me may not
connect but they're easier to reach, and those people are easier to have
reach out to people who connect, it's a long chain that's easier to ensure
when the person is right there and not behind a screen. Online wise, I am
also considering putting my next album when it comes out on the big sites.
I don't want to sell myself short and give it to them to satisfy the algorithm
but I want the people who'll connect to find it, see what happens, as it should.
Alternatively I could of course send demos to labels, but you know who does that
with the internet drek? I worry that's all for proper studio stuff, recorded
on nice big analog consoles and with two guys in the monitor room smoking
rough cigarettes and asking the drum guy to hit the snare harder. Maybe it'll
work though, maybe they'll like my musical voice. The only reason I do
what I do is because I feel like most stuff out there isn't for me to
connect to, like I am intrinsically different from most people, the people
that most music is meant to be sold to. This is a lot of what the album
is about actually: a trio of hopes and fears of love, work and history.
I'm putting my all into this album, it'll be something I'm really proud of.
I'd talk more but this is getting long enough and I want to eat dinner,
and there is a lot more to be done in all facets of life. I will be making
a bio page sometime soon, talking about myself, and expect a new blog post
on the 7th of June. Oh shit, I also almost entirely forgot: the album is
at work actively, recording and all, slow work but sure work. This big one
probably be out in October or so. Whatever happens, it will.
